Dishonest Don's Fireworks

"Where you get a steal of a deal"

WHERE YOU GET A STEAL OF A DEAL

About Us
Dishonest Don's Fireworks is a family owned company which has been in business for 31 years!  We're not affiliated with any corporate entity or otherwise haven't sold out to some large company.  We do what we've always done from a large tent in the same location we've always been at for 31 years now.  We know fireworks better than anyone.  We don't sell what we wouldn't shoot ourselves.

One day in 1990, our competition put a simple sign in front of his place that said, "Honest John's Fireworks".  Within about an hour Uncle Don came up with Dishonest Don's Fireworks and after that day, every tent in the world suddenly had a 'name'.   Since that day, everybody has come up with a catchy name.  Some names have come and gone and some remain.  Since then, we've seen Crazy Harry's, Starving Marvin's, Crazy Debbie's and the list goes on.  Before 1990, everybody in the fireworks business, just had a sign that said fireworks.

We're often confused with Honest John's because it sounds a lot like Dishonest Don's. I don't know how everybody confuses the names because they're exact opposites, but they do.

DISHONEST DON'S IS AN LLC PARTNERSHIP.
Dishonest Don's began in 1981 out of the back of a pick up truck to raise funds to get Kurt to Philmont Scout camp and the rest is history.

Dishonest Don's is a family owned business and prides itself that 90% of our customers since 1981 are repeat customers and the kids and grandkids of those first customers are now following the footsteps of mom, dad and grandpa and grandma.  What's important, is we know you and you know us......

HERE'S FAMILY PHOTOS.

What the place looks like May 31st,  a few days before we start set up.

This photo of a super cell thunderstom was taken Wednesday, June 24 th, 2009 at 7 PM.
Dishonest Don's Firewworks is just on the other side of this diner.  About 30 minutes after
this photo a rain storm came from behind us.  The storm shown was in Overland Park
at the time.  Our biggest fear is one of these things ove the top of us.  We have cable TV and
every weather toy.  One of the owners, Gary, is a meteorologist and constantly watches
the weather.  He specializes in long range weather and you can see his weather web
site at:   www.kclongrangeweather.com

Between June 3 rd and the 13, the fireworks arrive and the tent goes up.  This photo was taken at 6 AM the morning of
July 4 th, in 2008 on the big day!

This is the only business I know of where the idea is to sell out and run out of product on your
last and biggest day.  Believe it or not, all the book work is done right there outside the tent.

This the the morning of the 4 th.  All the important stuff is there. The glasses, coffee,
epsom saults, calculator, the tent phone, trash bags, the TV and God knows what.

Because of City ordinances, our configuration changed and probably wasn't noticed.

This year, this was the new work station with a flat screen TV.  Here you see M80Mom in her favorite chair she's had for years!

Steve Lloyd is our security guy.  I can't tell you much more other than he does he loves this vacation job.

With a combined effort of up to 30 different people, we get the shelves filled.

So, the big day for us is the 4 th of July.  By the 4th, we'll have been open over 48 hours with an average of 10 employees at
any given time.  Here are some visual images of the 4th.

Co-owner Kurt is on the right and his new wife, Linda is at far left as they meet outside with some friends.

Eary on the 4th showing Scott ( one of the owners in black shirt to the right with his back towards you), making a box deal.

Heather and Chin running the register late in the day.  Jo has her back to you running the middle register. Heather was born with a liver disease and had a succesful liver transplant about 60 days after this photo was taken.

About 10 years ago, we'd put a kid at the intersection holding a sign with a sale.  This is Sierra.
Sierra just graduated and literally has grown up at the fireworks stand.

Sierra has grown up.  This is her 4 years ago.  She is one of Scott's daughters.
